Istanbul-based homeware company Gaia&Gino has carved a formidable reputation for its roster of hand-made limited-edition products, created in collaboration with some of the world’s most innovative objet designers. “Our recent collaboration on The Eye collection is produced with Iznik Quarts Ceramic which is made by Turkish craftspeople,” explains founder Gaye Cevikel.

Indeed. The Eye collection, designed by London-based industrial designer Sebastian Bergne, has been hand crafted in the traditional Iznik factories of western Anatolia using a quartz based clay and glaze recipe that

goes back centuries. The collection is limited to a maximum of 300 pieces in each design, decorated in an iconic Eye design, which is said to ward off bad luck.

It’s a similar story with Russian-born designer Constantin Boym and acclaimed US designer Harry Allen. Boym creates highly coveted architecture-inspired vases and centerpieces made from hand-glued crystal. Allen’s stunning architectural mosaic clear blue vases are also all glued by hand. They join Jaime Hayon whose exquisite candleholders made from optical glass are all hand sandblasted creating playful geometric patterns.
