The cufflinks are fashioned out of Japanese stainless steel, because it is the highest grade steel available, and the intricate mechanism within the cufflinks require a strong metal (silver would be too soft). “Steel is also, in our view a masculine metal and appropriate for the brand” says Hayward.
The product development phase of each Armrevolution cufflink is highly time consuming. Designs are realized in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) programme, the steel is cut by machine and each piece assembled and hand polished before undergoing the final stage of laser etching the unique ID number into each pair. Then the products are all individually hand checked again.
Says Hayward: “We only produce each design in small runs. The intricacy of the mechanisms and the fact that they are each hand-built and hand-finished makes the construction of each pair incredibly time consuming and many hours of work goes into each design during the production process.”
