“I’m like a haberdasher’s matchmaker, always on the lookout for an appealing objet trouvé that warms the cockles of my heart” states couturier, accessory designer, stylist and illustrator Marko Matysik. He scours anything from a car boot sale, vintage fashion fair, village fête to an emerald mine in Brazil for the components of his one-off creations.
With a multi-facetted career in fashion, Marko has the opportunity to travel extensively and uses his travels to source the stones for his
sought after belts. Says Marko “I try to always take time to find local stones, minerals or fossils that I am attracted to. Some stones respond by heating up in your hand, but others leave me cold! I also have several specialist dealers that travel the globe picking up rare stones for me.”
Each of Marko’s belts is a perfect illustration of how he amalgamates stones, fabrics, leathers and whatever else he has discovered on his journeys into a uniquely beautiful object.
