
Aurora Lopez Mejia has been obsessed with dictionaries and geology since her youth.A child of the free-spirited 1960s, she grew up in an environment where she was encouraged to make her own choices and develop her own style. Her brother, whom Lopez Mejia describes as the “family peacock”, often frequented a tailor (the same San Francisco based tailor preferred by the Rolling Stones) to have colorful clothing items made. “Going to a tailor to have things made is still quite
customary in my family. If we cannot find what we want, we will find a way to have it made” she states.
It is perhaps this attitude, the desire to create what was not available, that lead Lopez Mejia to begin designing jewelry over 20 years ago. “My collection began with a series of rings which I hand inscribed with messages for my friends,” says the designer who has a great interest in ancient civilizations who originally
